Dominating Diabetes

Lesson 2

  • Lifestyle Nutrition Plan
  • Snacks to raise blood sugar

By now, you have started changing your diet and should be starting to see blood sugar changes. What do you do when you have a low? We know the general advice is to have a cola or candy bar, but that creates too much fluctuation and takes you back into that vicious high-and-low cycle. Besides, you have come too far to be adding those things back in ever again.

Anything less than 5 grams of carbs will not raise your blood sugar, so you need a snack with 7 or 8 grams of carbs to raise your blood sugar. Anything more than this will cause it to jump too much.

If you are having a low, have a snack with 7-8 grams of carbs, then re-check your blood sugar in 30-45 minutes to ensure it is coming up to an optimal level.

Download the Lifestyle Nutriton Plan to begin eating to fuel your body and reduce your blood sugar. You want to focus on keeping carbohydrates under 20-30 grams/day. The average American consumes over 350 grams of carbs/day!
